The Faith Discovery Class studies, on Wednesday nights, are meant to be structured discussions centered around a book of interest, contemporary or historical, and related to our faith. These classes will not have a strict size limit. These studies will be open to all adults interested in the book topic. However, the first classs from September 3 through November 19 will be led by Dr. William Pender and open only to young adults without children. This topic will be offered again and open to everyone in the future. Below is a short description of “Simply Christian” by Dr. Pender:
There is an old bumper sticker that declares, “If you can read this sticker, thank a teacher.” Few, if any of us, learned to read without time and effort (left to my own choices, I would have played in the woods rather than go to school!). If you think there is something to “spirituality,” here’s an opportunity to go to “school”. Have you ever wondered what this religious urge is in us? Why do people use “Jesus” and “God” as swear words? Do you sense that we are more than just right brain and left brain…more than electrical impulses…more than hungers for nourishment and excitement? “Simply Christian” is a course that will explore the roots of the spiritual impulse and why the Christian expression is so fitting, perhaps even for you as well. This course will require less than an hour of reading in a week and will be offered to all adults again in the future.
