At the same time, there will be people who will worry about staying warm, finding shelter and a hot meal. The Wednesday night children’s program is a holistic approach, integrating body, mind, spirit, and voice, through the study of hymns, liturgy, scripture, music theory/fundamentals, art, and fellowship through organized recreation. This year, the children are divided into three groups: 1) Kindergarteners and First Grade and 2) Second and Third Grades, and 3) Fourth & Fifth grades. As part of our Covenant Choir ministry the children have the opportunity to lead in worship once or twice monthly.
The various elements of Worshipful Wednesdays are listed below:
Dinner begins at 5:30pm with programs from 6:15pm to 7:30pm.
Under 3 years old: This group will play and grow in the nursery with Ms. Lauren (Nunn) as well as several other childcare workers and volunteers!
Ages 3 – 4 years old (preschool): This group will play, learn Bible stories, enjoy crafts, and learn songs/instruments to share with the congregation at special worships like the Christmas Pageant with Mr. Raymond (McCord) and Ms. Sharon (Patton) and a few other adults at times too!
Kindergarten through 1st Graders: This group will play, learn Bible stories, have recreation, enjoy crafts and well-loved songs with Ms. Celeste (Whaley) and Ms. Jane (Armstrong)! This group may still sing with the Covenant Choirs: more information coming soon!
2nd through 3rd Graders and 4th through 5th Graders: These two groups will rotate through the following 3 stations:
- Music/Covenant Choir led by Mr. Ashley (Burell)
-Bible Stories (review from worship) and Wee Kirk (a study about church and worship) with Ms. Brianna (Cook) and Ms. Donna (Young)
-Organized Recreation with Ms. Brianna and other adult teachers.
We would LOVE if you want to join us as a child student or an adult helper. We have LOTS of fun and LEARN so much each week!
Nursery: The nursery is staffed by many wonderful childcare workers as well as many church members who volunteer several times a quarter. This area is available for the convenience and comfort of all children, parents, and church attendees for children ages 3 years and younger during both Worship Services.
Special Time with the Children: This is a special time during the 11am Worship Service set aside for all children, and young at heart. The children are invited to come sit at the front while a special message related to worship, the Bible, etc. is given directly to them. This is normally lead by Brianna Cook, Children’s Ministry Coordinator, but may be lead by the Pastors or other church members.
Children’s Church: During the 11am Worship Service, all children ages 3 years through 1st grade are invited to go downstairs with several adults/teachers and normally Brianna Cook to have their own worship, learning time, fellowship, and other activities geared towards this age.
Carrying the Communion Elements: On Communion Sundays, several members of the oldest Children’s Sunday School class carry the Communion Elements into Worship.
Covenant Choir: During many worship services (both services), the children sing and/or lead worship. This is directed by Ashley Burell. The children normally practice on Wednesday nights and specified Sunday mornings.
