Youth Sunday 2008

pyc-logo-2.jpgWhen: May 11, 2008

What: Youth Sunday, also Pentecost and Mother’s Day, was a very special celebration. A unique schedule had been created for a special, intentional time of fellowship and devotion as ONE church family. There was not an early service or Sunday school. Besides Rally Day, this is the only other time that Sunday school is interrupted.

Schedule:

9:30a.m. - The day start with the Mother’s Day fellowship brunch catered by the Entertainers.  mothersday.jpg

10:15a.m. - Each Sunday school class gave a short devotional (Approximately 1-2 minutes). The devotional either shared a piece of wisdom for the youth graduates regarding a milestone in life or share a story and/or scripture about how a mother helped shape their faith.

Special Children’s Note: Ms Jane’s 3s & 4s, Mr. Raymond’s 2s, Ms. Iva and Anne Ma’s Toddlers, and the Infant nursery Sunday school classes  still met as usual at 10:00a.m. All other children were  expected to sit with their parents and/or participate in the devotional time with the rest of the church body.

pentecostmaronite.jpg11:00a.m. - The Youth Sunday service officially started. Martha Myers (with Rev. Kally Elliott), Rebecca Neely (with Rev. Liz Peterson), and Rebekah Myers (with Dr. William Pender) wrote their sermons using the lectionary texts for Pentecost. Meg Goddard wrotte the liturgy working with Dr. Paul Rader. Many of our other youth worked on special musical portions of the service with Ashley Burrell, our choir director. We  also be honored our graduating high school seniors and college graduates with books as gifts from the Julia White endowment. The high school seniors also received a special gift from the Presbyterian Women. The service  also included a special Minute for Mission by Doy Barron as our congregation sends Andrew Whaley and Becca Pevey to Columbia Theological seminary.
