My Village

My Village LogoMy (abbreviation for Montgomery) Village Child Development Center, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) organization, provides quality care from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM, Monday thru Friday, 52 weeks every year. First Presbyterian Church is proud to be one of the partners that helps make this happen. The local missions committee publicized the need for presents for every My Village child for 2007 Christmas. At least 40 persons provided a cap/hat, mittens/gloves, plus two to four additional gifts, collected, and wrapped them with nametags. Two First Presbyterian Church members—J. D. Lee and Patrice Lee— provided a new pair of shoes for each child enrolled at My Village for the fifth Christmas. Volunteers, sought by local missions committee, wrapped each pair of boxed shoes with nametags. All of this was done through the church’s annual Giving Party in December. Members of First Presbyterian Church send gifts throughout the year to both our children and their parents, including boxes of toys, bicycles, children’s and adult clothing, books for children and adolescents; as well as visiting My Village, reading and playing with the children. Such financial donations have helped My Village in having maintained for five years the highest rating of 3-Star assessed by TN Dept. of Human Services (DHS); My Village provides IRS gift receipts and to send, if requested, a copy of the most recent audit and 990 form.

Several remarkable events occurred this year at My Village Child Development Center. DHS required the purchase of a new $39,780 bus to transport children from and return to Montgomery Village Housing campus and from four elementary schools for our after-school program; after our down payment of $12,000, the City of Knoxville/HUD paid our loan for the bus purchase of $27,800. Amazingly, a miracle has happened at My Village. For the first year, we have two Pre-Kindergarten classrooms for Three’s and for Four’s with computers for recognition of letter and numbers, problem solving skills; social development skills that gestate basic positive attitudes and character are part of the curricula. Our data show that the children are ready to learn to read and do math when they enter kindergarten. These two classrooms are under the auspices of the Tennessee Department of Education and Knox County Public Schools, respectively.  Every gift of every kind helps the MyVillage children and their families.
