Sunday School: (9:45 a.m. -10:40 a.m.)
The Middle School class meets in the highest point of the church, called “heaven.” Seventh and eighth graders, the 78s, attend this class. This year the 78s will have a Confirmation class. They are given the opportunity to participate in a year-long course that discusses what it means to be a follower of Christ and what it means to do that in the Presbyterian tradition. Class members attend worship services of other denominations and faiths, participate in weekly Bible study with a variety of church teachers, and take a trip to a nearby seminary (often also visiting the amusement park close by!)
First Presbyterian considers 6th graders Middle Schoolers. However, since this is a big transition year, for Sunday school the 6th and 5th graders are together in a seperate 56s classroom in “heaven”. But on Wednesday nights and Sunday nights the 6th graders are grouped with the 7th and 8th graders. This is to encourage our 6th graders to form meaningful relationships with other kids older and younger.
