We are surrounded by caregivers in our church and community, and the chances are that you know one or more of them who are caring for loved ones (sometimes more than one at a time) with chronic illnesses. Caregivers must deal with their love one's myriad chronic problems, as well as their own needs and emotions when facing a changed parental, spousal, or other relationship.
The issues of older or aging adults and parents usually require more than any one family member can provide on his or her own. As they say, “It takes a village” to support the caregiver involved in these various challenges.
Where can you find a more meaningful place than your church to offer this support? The Adult Ministry at First Pres is in the initial stages of implementing a support network for caregivers. Mary Wilson and Ailsa Schuller will host a three-part program in the Carrick Sunday School Class Sunday September 24th, October 1st and October 8th on the need for this important role and what we can do as a church to make this endeavor successful.
