A Home Built with Love: Celebrating Dominique Payne’s New Beginning

On October 26th, we came together to celebrate the completion of a dream—Dominique Payne and her four children’s new Habitat for Humanity home. Surrounded by Dominique's friends, family, and the dedicated members of Habitat for Humanity and Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan, our First Presbyterian family had the privilege of witnessing God’s hand at work in an extraordinary way.

The dedication ceremony was a moving culmination of months of hard work, prayer, and partnership. Together, we prayed through every room of Dominique’s home, lifting up prayers of gratitude and blessing. Craig Wrisberg shared a powerful reflection rooted in Psalm 127: “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.”

Craig reminded us of how the Lord “showed up big time” throughout this project—not only in the completion of the house but in the unity and joy experienced among all who labored. The partnership between our two faith communities—Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan and First Presbyterian as well as the excellent crew from Habitat for Humanity—working hand in hand with Dominique on six Saturdays was a testament to God’s provision and love.

Craig reflected on the early-morning starts, the tireless efforts of over 30 volunteers from First Presbyterian (and many more from Habitat and Good Sam), and the unexpected “divine appointments” that brought neighbors, friends, and even strangers to the site to lend a hand. Truly, the spirit of Jehovah Jireh—the Lord who provides—was evident every step of the way.
Proverbs 14:1 reminds us, “The wise woman builds her house.” Dominique exemplified this wisdom and dedication, showing up every time with a smile and a steadfast work ethic. It was an honor to build alongside her, witnessing her commitment to creating a home filled with love and hope for her family.

The dedication ceremony was a powerful moment of unity, love, and prayer. We are deeply grateful for Habitat for Humanity, Good Samaritan, and Dominique for allowing us to be part of this journey.
