Flower Guild Annual Kickoff was a Huge Success!

On Tuesday September 6th, the flower guild held its annual kickoff meeting for 2022-2023 with terrific fellowship and instruction.

Opening with prayer, a brief business meeting and dinner we welcomed new members Sarah Henderson, Jenny Eversole, Jane Conway, and Sylvia McLaurin! Diana Curtis was an honored (and talented) guest. Kathryn Calloway, our guest presenter is a freelance florist and member of the Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church flower guild. Kathryn shared her floral arranging philosophy and talent with great humor and natural skill. In her demonstration of a "classic triangle" arrangement, Kathryn discussed design principles, floral mechanics, and demonstrated how our commonly used rose, tulip, carnation, and alstroemeria petals and foliage can be manipulated to take on the dramatic appearance of a totally different flower. Kathryn's best advice was that we lift up a prayer each time we arrange, and remember that our gifts are meant to glorify God.

A hands-on exercise followed that permitted each guild member to arrange a floral swag well suited to use for special church events and holidays. There were nine creative arrangers and nine different swag designs! Guild members in attendance were Suzann Emery, Anne Hart, Ginny Morrow, Jenny Eversole, Holli Rogers, Holly Eddins, Sarah Cassell, Anne Pittenger, Nancy White, Jane Conway, Sarah Henderson, Becky Dwarshuis, Sylvia McLaurin, and Becky Tate.
