FPC Hosted Knoxville Opera's Wonderful Seasonal Event Last Saturday Celebrating Diversity, Unity and the Joy of Music

First Presbyterian hosted a powerful event last Saturday, December 9th. The Knoxville Opera Chorus, Knoxville Opera Children's Choir, and guest soloists came together to create a wonderful holiday afternoon concert. Don Townsend, the head of our bass section in the First Presbyterian choir, was the chorus master for the Knoxville Opera production, and three of our choir members participated in the performance: Eric White, Scott Beasley, and Eliza Foster. The event was a huge success, with attendees enjoying a wonderful afternoon of music.

The Children's Choir began the show with some beautiful melodies, the opera followed up with their compelling performance, and all came together at the end for a powerful rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus. The sanctuary was packed with a diverse crowd that numbered over 250. Some were hearing opera for the first time.

The Knoxville Opera Children's Choir brings together students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade from across Knox county, providing them with an inclusive and tuition-free opportunity to sing music that resonates with their culture. The choir empowers young singers to celebrate their identities through the universal language of music.

The Knoxville Opera Chorus has been a powerful cultural presence since 1978. Many thanks to our musical director Mark Pace for orchestrating cultural opportunities like these within our church. First Presbyterian was honored to host this exceptional performance and eagerly anticipates welcoming them back next year for another memorable event!
