Juneteenth Events in Knoxville
We are excited to invite you to join us for Juneteenth events in Knoxville, two that are organized within our Presbytery. Juneteenth is a significant day in American history that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.
The events will take place on June 19th and 23rd at various locations throughout Knoxville. Let's honor this important day and reflect on the progress we have made as a nation, as well as the work that still needs to be done.
Erin Presbyterian Church - Service on June 23rd
On Sunday June 23rd , Erin Presbyterian, 200 Lockett Road, Knoxville, will observe Juneteenth with a 10 a.m. worship service including an original choral reading, poetry, liberation hymns, special piano/organ selections, and the rich baritone voice of recognized guest artist Maurice Hendricks. Interim Pastor Anne McKee and the Erin congregation welcome all guests to this celebration of freedom!

Presbyterian Peacemaking Committee - Parade on June 19th
The Peacemaking Committee invites all Presbyterians to march in Knoxville's Juneteenth Parade/March and Celebration, Wednesday, June 19th, to commemorate the emancipation of slaves during the Civil War.
The march follows the 2-mile route between Chilhowee Park and Walter Hardy Park. Presbyterian participants will join with the Oak Ridge Environmental Peace Alliance's giant puppets that portray important Civil Rights figures. Those interested in carrying one of the puppets are welcome to volunteer. The "Presbyterians for Peace and Justice" banner will also be carried in the parade.
Come to the Midway entrance of Chilhowee Park off North Beaman Street between 8:30 and 9:00 and look for the puppets to find a place in the parade lineup. The parade begins at 10 am. If you have questions or would like more information please contact Ann Brunger.
The Juneteenth Celebration will begin at noon at Dr. Walter Hardy Park with activities, performances and educational opportunities.
Beck Cultural Exchange Center - Events on June 19th
The Beck Cultural Exchange Center (1927 Dandridge Ave, Knoxville, TN 37915) will kick off its Juneteenth events with a commemoration of the holiday with tours, exhibits and activities starting at 10 a.m. A Young Adult Town Hall will be at 4 p.m. at the Beck Center. A Taste of Soul Food event will begin at 5 p.m. A Tennessee Black Caucus meeting, including Chairperson State Rep. Sam McKenzie, will be 5:30-7 p.m.
