Update from Member Terri Ramsay on her work with Stevie, infant chimpanzee at Zoo Knoxville

We are sending our prayers for First Presbyterian member Terri Ramsay, who is one of the expert caregivers caring round the clock for Stevie, an infant chimpanzee born at Zoo Knoxville in late April. Terri was a big cat, carnivore and Great Ape keeper at the Zoo for many years, and was asked to return to care for gorilla babies and now baby Stevie.

Stevie is doing well and learning to crawl and climb. She is being hand reared because her mother had health issues right after birth and was unable to take care of her. Stevie requires 24 hour a day attention and an army of caregivers that includes Terri who make sure she stays healthy and develops well. When she’s reached all of her milestones she will be introduced back into the troop of Chimpanzees. You can follow her progress on the Zoo Knoxville Facebook and Instagram pages.

Chimpanzees are an endangered species, and being driven to extinction by habitat loss, disease, and their biggest threat, illegal poaching. Zoo Knoxville is working in partnership with 32 other zoos accredited to ensure a healthy population remains as hope for the future. Thank you, Terri, for your hard work caring for these wonderful animals.

For every animal among the trees is Mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird of the mountains. And all things that move in the field are Mine. - Psalm 50:10-11
