A book co-authored by FPC member Colleen Shannon received two notable awards recently. The East Tennessee Historical Society conferred on Colleen, Steve Petty and Anna Garber an Award of Excellence for their book, "From the Mouth of Boyd's Creek: A History of Seymour, Tennessee, and the Boyds Creek Valley". And the East Tennessee Historical Commission awarded them one of its annual Certificate of Merit Awards for the book.

Colleen and her co-authors donate all proceeds from the book to Friends of Seymour Library, a non-profit organization that supports Williams Family Seymour Branch Library. The book, which was published in September of 2023, is in its 4th printing with more than 1,000 copies sold. Authors have donated about $20,000 to the library so far.

"We are very pleased that the history of this area is being acknowledged. We think it will draw greater attention to the book so more people will buy it. Every book sold brings $25 to the library," Colleen said. Info: https://boydscreekbook.com.
