New Youth Director Position Open

Position Type: Part-Time (10 hours per week)

Reports to: The Director of Family Faith Formation Summary: The Youth Director will work alongside the Director of Family Faith Formation, Associate Pastor, and the Youth Ministry Committee to provide leadership and spiritual guidance to the youth of First Presbyterian Church, Knoxville. This position involves planning, organizing, and overseeing youth programs, events, and activities to foster spiritual growth, discipleship, and a sense of community among the youth members of the church. The Youth Director would be responsible for helping to plan and execute youth programs during Sunday School as well as Worshipful Wednesday. Additionally, the Youth Director would have the opportunity to provide leadership at youth outings, presbytery partnerships (like the monthly “Small and Mighty” gatherings), and summer trips.*

*Trips, conferences, and overnight programs will be compensated based on a contractual commitment when such commitments exceed compensated hours of service to First Presbyterian Church.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Spiritual Leadership:
    • Foster a nurturing and inclusive environment for the youth to grow in their faith and relationship with God.
    • Help to implement and lead engaging and age-appropriate Bible studies, discussions, and worship experiences.

  2. Program Implementation:
    • Help to organize, and coordinate a range of youth programs, including but not limited to: Sunday School, Worshipful Wednesday (midweek gatherings), retreats, mission trips, and special events.
    • Collaborate with the broader church community to integrate youth into the life of the church.

  3. Discipleship and Mentoring:
    • Build meaningful relationships with youth, providing guidance, support, and mentorship in their spiritual journey.
    • Equip and empower youth to discover and use their spiritual gifts and talents for the service of the church and the broader community.

  4. Communication:
    • Aid in effectively communicating with youth, parents, and church leadership regarding upcoming events, programs, and important information related to the youth ministry.

    Qualifications:
    • A committed and mature Christian with a strong understanding of Reformed theology and the Presbyterian tradition.
    • Previous experience in youth ministry or related roles is highly desirable but not required.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in working with youth and their families.
    • Ability to plan and execute engaging and age-appropriate youth programs and activities.
    • Proficient in using technology for communication and administrative tasks.
    • Pass a criminal background check.
