Ed Miller Veteran Profile
Ed Miller is a career journalist with a remarkable life story, a talented member of our choir, and a cherished friend of First Presbyterian. Be sure to take the opportunity to get to know him!
In January 1956, I enlisted in the Army, starting my service with the 101st Airborne Infantry Division before transferring to the Army Security Agency. This photograph shows me in combat gear in Germany, though cameras were strictly prohibited in the operations area where I worked. The mission's secrecy was so intense that even the base commander did not have clearance to enter.
Following nearly a year of intensive Slovene language training at the Army Language School in Monterey, California, I was assigned to a small base nestled in the foothills of the German Alps near Munich. There, I served as an intelligence analyst. My military career included three years on active duty and three years in the Army Reserves. While stationed in Europe, I met and married Ghislaine, my wife of 66 years.
