FPC Women Join Presbytery-Wide Fall Spiritual Retreat
Six members of First Presbyterian Church joined about 75 Presbyterian Women from across East Tennessee at the annual Fall Spiritual Retreat at the John Knox Center Oct 26.
The Rev. Ann Myers, moderator of Presbyterian Women of the Presbytery of East Tennessee, presided. Attending from our church, besides Ann, were Celeste Whaley, Hilda Lipe, Sharon Patton, Phyllis Driver and Kelly Norrell. Speakers included the Rev. Lyn Oakley, pastor of Washington Presbyterian Church, Crystal Tompkins, executive director of the Morgan Scott Project, and Brenda Black of Northside Presbyterian in Chattanooga.
The women brought needed staples and cash for Morgan-Scott, a PW supported ministry which serves people in need who live in Morgan and Scott counties. Led by the Rev. Oakley, a delegate to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, they also discussed problems of poverty and discrimination against women and children worldwide. The event closed with worship led by the Rev. Oakley.
