Mission Market Profits Help Care for Congolese Foster Children

A family provides its foster children with a home, meals, and schooling

Recent profits from the First Presbyterian Mission Market will help pay for a foster care program for homeless children in the Kasai region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Presbyterian Community of Congo has found that church-supported foster care provides better care for homeless children than any other method. As the rate of child abandonment in Congo has grown, Presbyterians have struggled as they saw children living alone in brutal circumstances.

Jeff and Christi Boyd, our mission co-workers in Congo, have pointed to church-backed foster care as an excellent solution. The Global Missions Committee voted this week to send $1600 in Global Missions profits, plus $400 in the budget already designated for vulnerable children, to CPC for this program. As the foster parents rely on churches for help with the care, this $2000 will pay for expenses like food, clothing, and school tuition for the children.

Thank you, First Presbyterian, for your help caring for Congo’s children!
