Join Us in Supporting Dominique’s New Beginning

Thanks to the efforts of many volunteers from our congregation and the Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan, a deserving single mother and her children will soon be moving into their new Habitat for Humanity home. As a final gesture of support for Dominique, members of First Presbyterian are invited to contribute to the purchase of a Lowe's gift card, which will help her acquire essential appliances and household items. We plan to present her with the card as a joint gift from our two congregations following the upcoming Habitat House dedication ceremony.

Donations may be made by submitting a personal check written to "First Presbyterian Church" and designated for "Habitat House," or by contributing online at fpcknox.org/give. Please be sure to select the "Habitat House" fund for your contribution.

This project has given us the joyful opportunity to form new friendships, serve together as a church, and extend our service to others in the name of Jesus Christ. Thank you for your generosity and prayerful support throughout this entire mission.

Dominique's inspiring journey to affordable homeownership with Knoxville Habitat for Humanity is a testament to the power of resilience, hope, and the transformative impact of community support. As a single mother of four, Tamysja (19), Tiras (18), Micah (13), and Lynnox (3), and a passionate chef, Dominique's story captures the essence of determination and the pursuit of a brighter future for her family.

"I'm a chef, but I work in the school system as a sub right now...and I have a food truck on the side," Dominique shares, revealing her hardworking nature and dedication to providing for her family. Her culinary skills, particularly in soul food, not only nourish bodies but also bring warmth and joy to those around her.

Facing the challenges of a cramped living space and an unsafe neighborhood, Dominique is determined to provide a better life for her children. "It's five of us living at home, and we have a three-bedroom. So, the girls share, my son has his own room, and then there's me," she explains, highlighting the tight quarters her family currently navigates. Further compounding the difficulty is the area they live in, which Dominique describes as unsafe, "That side of town is kind of rough...I really don't let the baby go outside."

Dominique's aspirations for homeownership are deeply rooted in her quest for a stable foundation and the chance to create lasting traditions. "Just to make memories...and enjoy times, holidays, all that with my family," she reflects, highlighting her vision for a home filled with love and celebration.

Her gratitude towards Knoxville Habitat for Humanity and its supporters is profound. "I'd just like to give a huge thank you...for making it possible for people like me," Dominique expresses. This sentiment underscores the impact of the organization and its volunteers, reminding us of the difference they make in the lives of families striving for a better life.

Dominique's story, marked by perseverance and a hopeful outlook, inspires a deeper understanding of the challenges and dreams of those Knoxville Habitat for Humanity serves. Her anticipation for a future where her children can grow up in a secure, joyful environment is a powerful call to action, encouraging the community to rally in support of affordable homeownership.

As Dominique stands on the threshold of a new chapter, her journey reminds us of the critical role of compassion, support, and collective effort in transforming lives. Her story is not just about the walls that will surround her family but about the foundation of hope, safety, and opportunities that a home can provide, inspiring us all to contribute to a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
