Children’s VBS Program

Join Us for a Summer Adventure at Camp Firelight VBS!

"Whenever I’m afraid, I put my trust in you." - Psalm 56:3

This summer, First Presbyterian Church invites all young explorers to embark on an unforgettable adventure at Camp Firelight! For the first time since 2019, VBS will be held in our church and we are so excited about a week filled with fun, crafts, games, and inspiring Bible stories that help us trust God in every situation.

Dates: June 9-12

  • Sunday, June 9: Kickoff at 9:45 AM - 10:45 AM in the chapel (parents please pick up your children in the chapel)

  • Monday & Tuesday: Dinner at 5:30 PM, VBS Activities 6:15 PM - 7:30 PM

  • Wednesday: Dinner at 5:30 PM, VBS Activities 6:15 PM - 7:00 PM, followed by a festive dessert party!

Age Groups:

  • Preschoolers

  • Young Elementary: Grades 1-3

  • Older Elementary: Grades 4-6

Every day, children will participate in a range of exciting activities from arts and crafts to singing and recreational activities, all designed to reinforce lessons that help us trust in God. Whether it’s through the stories of biblical figures who trusted God’s guidance or through our own experiences at Camp Firelight, children will learn the importance of faith and friendship in a supportive, engaging environment.

Firelight Focus

Sunday - God Goes with Jacob
Discover how Jacob, setting out on a solitary journey, encounters God in a powerful dream. Learn how God’s promises of protection and blessing reassure us that He is always with us, guiding and watching over us.

Monday - Ruth Chooses to Go
Explore the inspiring story of Ruth, whose devotion and loyalty to Naomi teach us about the strength of faith and commitment. Witness how choosing to stay by Naomi’s side leads Ruth to a blessed new beginning.

Tuesday - Jesus Calms the Storm
Experience the power of Jesus as He calms a terrifying storm with just a few words, teaching His disciples about faith and trust. This story helps children understand that no matter how turbulent life gets, Jesus brings peace.

Wednesday - The Good News Sparks Joy
Join Philip as he shares the joyous message of Jesus with an Ethiopian official. This encounter emphasizes the joy and transformation that come from embracing faith, symbolized through baptism and rejoicing in the Lord.

"Whenever I’m afraid, I put my trust in you." - Psalm 56:3

We look forward to seeing you at Camp Firelight – where fun and faith meet in a summer camp adventure with God! Register today to secure a spot at Camp Firelight, where every child shines bright!

Adult VBS Program

We are excited to offer adult VBS classes designed to parallel the foundational journey our children will embark on in their "Camp Firelight: A Summer Camp Adventure with God." As our kids explore the core aspects of God's nature and love through the great outdoors, our adult sessions will dive into the profound and fundamental themes of "Justice," "Presbyterian," and "Hope" by using a curriculum called Why Presbyterians Are Like That (produced by the Office of Faith Formation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)). The class will meet in the James Park Room after dinner (from 6:15-7:30pm) and will run concurrently with the children's programming. We will not be hosting an adult VBS section on Sunday, June 9th. The classes will be led by Craig Wrisberg, Sarah Morgan, and Mary Wilson.

Topics Covered:

Justice: Understand and discuss the Biblical foundations of justice and our call as Presbyterians to advocate for equity and righteousness in our communities and beyond. Explore how justice weaves through the scriptures and how it can manifest in our daily actions and decisions.

Presbyterian: Delve into the rich heritage and theological underpinnings of the Presbyterian faith. This series will offer both historical insights and contemporary applications, emphasizing our denomination's commitment to community, governance, and grace.

Hope: In these sessions, reflect on the hope that scripture promises and our role in embodying this virtue. Discuss how hope informs our practices of faith and sustains us in times of trial, serving as a beacon that guides our communal and personal journeys.

Join us as we align our spiritual growth with the playful spirit of a summer camp, creating an atmosphere where both young and well-seasoned folks can learn from the Bible and each other. Whether you're seeking deeper theological understanding, practical life applications, or a renewed sense of spiritual purpose, our adult VBS curriculum is designed to engage your mind, enrich your faith, and empower your relationship with God.

Please join us for dinner in the Fellowship Hall at 5:30 pm, classes begin at 6:15 in the James Park room.
