Peacemaker June Lorenzo to speak in Presbytery Sept 14-17
International Peacemaker June Lorenzo will speak in East Tennessee from Sept. 14-Sept. 17. The Casa Blanca, NM, attorney and human rights advocate belongs to the Laguna Pueblo tribe of Native American Pueblo people, and Diné (Navajo Nation). She has defended the rights of Indigenous Peoples before the United Nations and Organization of American States. She has served as a judge for six Native Nations in New Mexico and as legal counsel for Laguna Pueblo and Navajo Nation, US Senate and US House of Representative committees, and the US Department of Justice (Voting Rights). She also advocates on uranium legacy issues, which are related to protection of sacred areas. You can hear her speak:
On Saturday, Sept 14, at Northside Presbyterian Church, 923 Mississippi Ave, Chattanooga. All interested people are invited. The event, a collaboration between Northside and Second Presbyterian of Chattanooga, will begin at 10:00 am and last until noon. The Rev. Paul Rader, former associate pastor at our church, is senior pastor of Northside.
On Sunday, Sept 15, during 9 a.m. worship at New Providence Presbyterian in Maryville. She will also speak at 10:30 a.m worship at Highland Presbyterian Church in Maryville.
On Tuesday, Sept. 17, she will speak in the Maryville College Chapel at 1:15 p.m.
Lorenzo is a member and clerk of session at Laguna United Presbyterian Church, the only Native American congregation in the Presbytery of Santa Fe.
